NEW YORK, Oct. 4, 2018 – The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) is pleased to announce the four recipients of the 2018-19 AICPA/Accountemps Scholarship Award. The recipients were selected for their leadership skills from more than 580 talented undergraduate and graduate students across the nation who are considered up-and-coming leaders in the CPA profession.
The recipients, who will each receive $10,000 to go toward tuition for the 2018-19 academic year, are:
- Marshelle Davis, University of Miami
- Marcela Nichifor, University of Alaska Fairbanks
- Kerby Philippeaux, Temple University
- Daniel Wollenberg, University of Dayton
“In addition to sound technical ability, these students have demonstrated the leadership skills that will help them greatly as they enter the accounting profession,” said Joanne Fiore, Vice-President, Professional Media, Academic and Student Engagement at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Students considered for the Accountemps Scholarship award are evaluated for academic achievement, experience in leadership, service and their dedication to pursuing a CPA certification. They must also have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and at least 30 semester hours in college-level coursework with six hours in accounting credits. A task force comprised of AICPA Student Recruitment Committee members, Accountemps staff and CPA volunteers are responsible for choosing the recipients.
“We are once again excited to partner with the AICPA to recognize these potential CPAs of the future,” said Michael Steinitz, Executive Director of staffing firm Accountemps, a Robert Half company. “Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients – for their standout skills and hard work now, which will help to set them up for success in their careers in the profession.”
Applicants for the Scholarship are enrolled in the AICPA Legacy Scholars Program, which provides students with guidance on how to succeed in the accounting profession, and connections to successful CPAs. All Legacy Scholars are Student Affiliate Members of the AICPA, which is a free-membership option offered to accounting students.
The AICPA Legacy Scholarship program provided more 140 scholarships this year, totaling $685,000, to qualified college students nationwide.
